Welcome to Microshaft!
This "Read Me" file contains the latest information
about running Microshaft to insure the best playing
experience possible. Please refer to the printed "User
Guide" for Microshaft instructions. Also, please refer
to the printed "Online Guide" for details on configuring
Microshaft to launch your browser and going online to
the Microshaft web site.
Note: you do not need the Microshaft CD-ROM to be in
your CD-ROM drive in order to play the leave-behind
Exploder game.
System Requirements
====================
To run Microshaft, your Windows 95 PC must have at
least:
- A 66 MHz 486 processor (Pentium processor
highly recommended)
- 16 MB RAM for Windows 95
- 20 MB free hard disk space
- A double speed CD-ROM (quad speed highly recommended)
- SVGA video (640x480 resolution with 256 colors)
- 8-bit sound
To connect to the Microshaft web site, you must also
have:
- A 14.4 Kbps modem (28.8 Kbps recommended)
- Netscape Navigator version 3.0 or later, or Microsoft
Internet Explorer 3.0 or later
- A subscription to an Internet Service Provider (ISP),
or America Online 3.0 or later
Troubleshooting
===============
Video, Animation and Sound:
If you are experiencing problems with video, animation
or sound:
1. Set your monitor graphics mode to display 640x480
resolution with 256 colors.
2. Before running Microshaft, exit all running programs,
including those that run automatically when you start
Windows (especially screen savers and toolbars).
3. Computers with slower components (66 MHz 486's, 60 or
75 MHz Pentiums, older video display chips, 2X CD-ROM
drives) may exhibit poor audio/video performance, long
delays (loads) between screens, and sluggish game play.
NOTE: PinBill will take up to a minute to load on slow
processors - but it's worth the wait!
Going Online:
If you have trouble visiting the Microshaft web site
from within the Microshaft program:
1. Run Browser Setup to configure Microshaft to launch
your browser.
2. Make sure that your browser and dialer are configured
to connect to your ISP, then try launching your browser
to a well-known web page BEFORE running Microshaft and
going online. If you don't see the web page (make sure
the browser is not reading from a file on your hard
drive), call your ISP for support. If you do see the
web page, try launching your browser to
http://www.parroty.com next. If you can't enter the
Parroty site, our web server may be busy or unavailable,
so please try again later.
3. You must run Browser Setup after installing or
updating your Internet browser in order to use that
browser to go online from Microshaft.
4. Browser Setup will not find 16-bit versions of
Microsoft Internet Explorer. Microsoft does not support
running 16-bit Internet Explorer under Windows 95.
Other:
1. Windows 95 allows you to run multiple copies of
programs. Make sure that you are running only one copy
of Microshaft.
2. Uninstalling Microshaft will not delete the Parroty
and Microshaft folders, as well as any user created
files (PD.INI, *.USR). If you reinstall Microshaft, your
browser and user tracking information will remain
intact. To completely remove all traces of Microshaft,
delete these folders and files manually.
3. Be careful not to click your right mouse button while
running Microshaft. Clicking the right mouse button may
disable the next left mouse button click.
4. Be careful not to move the cursor to the extreme top
or bottom of the screen. This action may activate any
toolbars you may use (such as the Microsoft Office
toolbar), and deactivate the Microshaft program.
